5 Steps To Make a Powerful Change In Your Life (While You’re Waiting)

Hello, beautiful souls!

I just hopped off an incredibly inspirational coaching call with a 1:1 client, in which we were discussing her feeling as though she’s taking all the action she possibly can to make her dream happen, but now she feels like she’s playing a waiting game.

This is an all-too-common issue we’re faced with, right? I know it’s happened to me in multiple situations, multiple times, and I’ve seen it happen with so many women that I work with, as well as my close friends.

The most common situation is when you submit a million job applications, then you’re waiting to hear back from potential employers, and there’s radio silence. It can be so frustrating to feel like your destiny is in someone else’s hands!

You’re wanting a big change to happen. You want something to shift. You want a new perspective, a new life.

So, today, I want to share my top 5 steps for making a powerful change in your life NOW, instead of sitting idly by, waiting for someone to get back to you.

At the end of the day, we really have no control over anything in this world, except how we respond to situations that show up in our lives. And sometimes, these situations repeatedly occur, because we haven’t yet learned the lesson they bring us or how to deal.

So, let’s create a new approach to “waiting” for something big to happen, so that we can simultaneously be preparing ourselves for the big change to happen!

1. Travel

Go somewhere, and expose yourself to new people, places, ideas, and cultures. One of the best ways to escape a feeling of “stuckness” is to hack your habitat and move your whole self into a new environment. Travel is one of the most enriching experiences you can have, so take a roadtrip somewhere new, or book a flight. Even if you just drive to the next town over, you’ll reap similar benefits and add some variety to your location!

2. Prepare

One of my favorite ways to release stress and feel like things have changed or shifted is to clean, reorganize, and get rid of things. In this way, I’m able to prepare myself for something new, whether it’s a business opportunity or a drastic move to a new city.

Prepare your outer space as though what you desire is already happening for you. So if you want a new job, think about what you would do to prepare for that new job. Maybe you’d get rid of all the “work clothes” in your wardrobe that don’t fit the vibe of your new office environment, and replace them with new ones. Maybe you’d get a new day planner for yourself or go to a certain type of networking meeting that you wouldn’t typically attend.

3. Set Yourself on Fire

Not literally, of course 🙂 But ignite and stoke that inner fire. Fill your schedule with things that truly fulfill you, and make you happy. Think back to a time when you felt totally free and fulfilled – what were you doing? These are the things that allow you to totally lose track of time when you’re doing them!

For me, the list includes creating pottery, riding a bike in the summertime, cooking a special and delicious meal from a new recipe, buying fresh flowers, and spending quality time talking about life with my girlfriends. Come up with your own list, and keep it somewhere safe as a reminder that you can make these things happen at any time, and you never need anyone’s permission.

4. Be Grateful

I feel like gratitude in the traditional sense that people talk about gratitude (i.e. “Make a list of 5 things you’re grateful for every day) is so over-done. But, being truly grateful for all that you already have makes you an even stronger magnet for creating even more goodness into your life, when you can truly sit with that feeling of gratitude. Notice what gratitude actually FEELS like in your physical body. For me, gratitude is also a sense of awe.

Appreciating how much beauty is happening right now is key to presence and gratitude, which in my book go hand in hand. Send thank-you notes for no particular reason to your friends and sending them as snail mail, buying someone flowers, picking up the whole check instead of just your half, or just making a mental acknowledgement of how thankful you are for something in your life right now are all amazing ways to express your gratitude.

Remind yourself of the natural cycles of life by taking a walk outside in nature, and making it a point to appreciate and observe how everything happens in the natural world in divine timing, without force. It just naturally evolves. See if you can begin to apply this ideology to your own life, and witness how things shift for you 🙂

5. Enlist Support

With any type of change in your life comes discomfort and resistance. In order to break through the resistance you experience when a new challenge or big life change arises, you’ll need some support – an outside perspective of someone who can see through your usual excuses and flawed thought patterns that have been keeping you stuck for years. Someone to hold you accountable for taking the action you commit to taking (including all of the above), as well as the navigation system when you get lost on this new, unfamiliar journey. Someone with the tools and resources that really work to create a new experience of your own life.
